The Iconaster Starfish (Iconaster longimanus) is one of the most visually striking sea stars available to marine aquarists. Native to the Indo-Pacific, this unique species is easily recognized by its bold colors, thick arms, and prominent black spines, often displaying vibrant shades of red, orange, and cream. Its dramatic appearance makes it a true centerpiece among reef-safe invertebrates.

In the wild, the Iconaster Starfish slowly moves across reef surfaces and sandy areas while feeding on sponges, detritus, and organic material found within live rock. Because of its specialized feeding habits, this species does best in large, well-established reef aquariums with plenty of mature live rock and natural food sources.

Growing to approximately 8–10 inches across, the Iconaster Starfish requires stable water conditions and plenty of space to roam. Like most sea stars, it is sensitive to sudden changes in salinity or temperature, so slow acclimation is essential when introducing it to a new aquarium.
